Day One - Saturday, December 1, 2012
A few hours prior to our flight time we got a call. I was upstairs doing last minute details and gathering things together for our trip to the airport. I heard my husband downstairs talking on the phone, but didn't think to much of it so I kept busy getting ready to leave. Our pet/house sitter was to arrive in a few minutes and I wanted to go over details about the house and the dogs with her.
I came down the stairs and sat on the couch to put my shoes on and my husband walked in the living room and said, "Well, that wasn't good news."
My first thought was that something had happened to one of our children or grandchildren. I said, "Why, what's wrong?" My husband proceeded to tell me it was the resort we were going to be staying at in Colorado informing us all of the guests had been evacuated due to wildfires in the area.
Great, now what do we do? Where are we going to stay? We debated on whether we should even go or not, but we knew our pet sitter was only available for this week, and my husband, Jim was only off work for this week. Even so I called to see if there was any other availability in the area, of course there wasn't. The first available opening was for the following week. I then called the airlines to see about canceling or switching our tickets. Yes, it could be done but it might cost more.
After about 40 or so minutes of phone calls we decided to go ahead and make the trip and just hope for the best once we got there, even though it meant we didn't know where we were going to be staying or what the cost would be.
Considering I had planned all of this in advance and all fees had been taken care of, you can imagine the stress and worry that was on our mind.
More to come tomorrow...
